About Guillaume Charreau

One to One drums lessons with freelance drummer and Tech Music School's tutor Guillaume Charreau.

I have been teaching drums for the past eight years both privately and in schools.
I feel very fortunate for currently being one of the teacher at Tech Music School (formerly Drumtech) in London.
After completing my diploma, I was offered a teaching position with the opportunity to carry on my studies and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Music Performance with the University Of West London (formerly Thames Valley University) in 2010.
In addition of my work at TMS, I also teach privately in my studio in Chiswick. The Studio is fully equipped with two drum-kits, PA, recording facilities, drum machine, play-along and backing tracks. Lessons are custom made to the student needs and what he/she might want to focus on.
My current students include people of all ages and abilities from first time beginners to advanced, well rounded gigging drummers.

As a drummer my main concern goes into developing a great Time, Sound and Feel. These three fundamentals are at the core of being able to develop your own voice....and becoming employable!

Although I don’t believe in any shortcuts mastering them, here are some of the area we look into to help achieving a better understanding and thus better control of them.

• Hand/Foot Technique: ergonomics, grips, position, motions (understanding how our body works in order to use it effectively)
• Rhythmic Awareness: subdivisions, placements, phrases, groupings (what goes on within the pulse)
• Styles: Pop, Rock, Reggae, Metal, Funk, RnB, Blues, Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian… (play-along & study through the influential artists, bands and drummers)
• Coordination & Independence.
• Vocabulary: fills, phrasing, soloing, creative systems.
• Reading & Transcribing.
• Practice Method (what and how you work is far more valuable than how much you work – be smart!)

My goal is to help my students (regardless of their level and abilities) grow and find their own musical path. Some come just for the fun of it, learning to play a few songs. Some come for pushing themselves in a particular area. You set your own bar.
I've been playing drums since the age of 10 including having studied drums/music full time.

Most of my work as a gigging drummer includes playing live or in the studio for different artists, bands and producers. Since my debut with french singer RoBERT I have been involved in various recordings UK & Europe tours, festivals (Reading and Leeds festival, Latitude, Bestival, Airwaves, Secret Garden Party etc...) as well as TV and radio shows: BBC1, Maida Vale session, BBC2, 6music, XFM...
I am currently working for dark pop electronic outfit 2forJoy, singer songwriter Lydia Baylis and producer/MD Richard Cardwell (James Morrison, Craig David).

Fees are:
  • One to One 1 hour lesson = £30 - the first lesson includes an extra 20min assessment/chat free of charge.
  • 6 Lessons Pre-paid Pass = £150 (valid for a period of 8 weeks)
