Ben Vleminckx is a freelance professional drummer and percussionist, having graduated from Bath Spa University with a BA (Hons) in Music in July 2012.
Ben is a drummer of varied styles including, jazz, funk, latin, hip-hop and rock to name but a few. He started learning to play at the age of 13 and soon found himself playing the kit in various college and community ensembles.
After his move to Bath, Ben began lessons with Rob Brian and successfully auditioned for the six-piece grunge/blues band, The Vinyl Project. With them he recorded an EP (Come And Get Me) toured the UK, and played the Cooler Jazz Festival in Bath. In his final year at university, Ben played with the Treehouse Jazz Quintet, hosting regular jam sessions in the city. He also began playing kit with the Cardiff University Big Band, initially accompanying them to the Great North Big Band Jazz Festival in Sunderland. In August 2012, Ben was invited to performed with the band at the internationally-renowned Brecon Jazz Festival. Their diverse programme included music by Gordon Goodwin and the virtuoso arrangement of West Side Story made famous by the great Buddy Rich.
Ben is regularly giging in the Bath/Bristol area on both the popular scene and the jazz scene. Ben is currently developing his own project with local musicians as well as playing with various artists such as up and coming jazz musician, Jack Foster.
