Ian is a lifelong musician. Educated to graduate level in the fields of popular music, recording technology and teaching. He has taught drums and guitar for a number of years now. As a drummer there are very few situations he hasn’t covered. His experience covers swing big band, theatre pit drumming, floor shows, resident house band work, along with lounge jazz combos and playing every genre of music in small groups and bands including brass band percussion. With a young family in 1987 he gave up professional drumming and touring and concentrated on a career as a pro entertainer, singing and playing guitar around the North West club scene. He is a part self-taught guitarist and has studied with a few well known teachers too, learning to play most popular genres. 

In 2000 he qualified as a secondary music school teacher but left school teaching in 2008 disillusioned with the profession. Since 2009 he has managed a busy teaching practice at Rimmers Music School in Leyland as part of their full-time teaching staff, teaching guitar and drums to young and old alike.
