Ian is a professional drummer and percussionist with 34 years playing and 20 years teaching experience, and counting! Trusted by schools and private pupils alike, he has helped a string of drummers start their musical careers.

As an active session musician, Ian can often be found in an orchestra pit, in the recording studio or out gigging with various bands. His own musical education allows this versatility so he is very keen to push his students to have the same.

His teaching focuses on solid musical understanding where you learn the right technique and how to apply it. Rather than just learning songs, Ian prefers to teach how drumming works within music, so students learn how grooves are put together, how to keep good time, and how to develop their own vocabulary of fills, rather than just parroting the same old ideas.

Once players have a solid foundation, they have the choice to begin working on
 the Trinity grade syllabus, but this isn't essential! Lessons are dictated by what the pupil wants to learn and geared individually to encourage progress and enjoyment at the same time.

Ian's musical education includes Grade 8 Drum Kit, Grade 7 Orchestral Percussion and BA Music Hons.
