I am currently a self-employed touring musician, and have been playing drums since the age of 13, during my time I began studying drums and music at school once I completed school I moved onto study BTEC music through Wigan & Leigh College, 2 year Foundation Degree in Popular Music and Production at The Manchester College, 1 year BA Hons in Music Performance at Hull College, PGCE at Hull College, and have completed my Grade 5 Music Theory. During the years I have taught drums privately, and have had the privileged experience to teach a group of drummers at The Stax Academy in Memphis TN during my time at Hull College.
As a performing/touring musician, I have played various festivals in the UK and abroad, P&O cruises, Casinos, Warner Lesiure Hotels, weddings, write and recorded original music, support acts such as TopLoader, The Pigeon Detectives, Coasts and Musical Youth just to name a few. Over the years I have been exposed to playing various different styles of music, ranging from, rock, pop, Indie, ska, reggae, funk and soul-calpyso (Soca). Another valuable skill that I learnt during my time as a musician is being able to transcribe drum notation as I have had last minute calls for dep work, being able to transcribe and read drum notation has provided many uses when I need to learn songs under a very short space of time, and even reading drum score while playing.
As challenging as it is to be a full time musician with all of its up and downs all of my experiences performing live has allowed me to travel the world and see some amazing places, and meet many wonderful people and musicians along the way in which I am very grateful for, and in doing so has allowed me to pass on knowledge and experience in teaching too.
Teaching:
I believe it is important for students to learn how to read drum notation, sight read, theory as well as the practicality of playing behind the drum kit as learning these skills help the student to communicate effectively with other musicians.
