About Brian Madigan

I believe that playing drums is a doorway into a wider appreciation of all things musical. As the drummer in any given situation you are not only the time-keeper but in a sense an on-the-fly arranger, bringing out the nuance and shape of the music and underpinning the efforts of your fellow players.

My early playing experiences were with post- punk 'new wave' bands, progressing through heavy rock, folk, pop and a stint with the Berkshire Youth Jazz Orchestra before my college education blew the horizons wide open. Since then I have performed and recorded with pit orchestras, folk groups, jazz combos, rock bands, world music groups, solo artists, you name it...

In teaching, I try to impart a balance between technical precision and instinctive musicality. Either one without the other is fairly useless but when you can achieve both then the world is your oyster.
